Depression is more than feeling sad — and it's treatable
Depression affects how you think, feel, and function in daily life. It is also one of the most responsive conditions to psychiatric treatment. At Infinity Health, we take a patient-centered approach that begins with understanding the full picture — not just the symptoms.
If you’re having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. You can reach someone 24/7. Infinity Health provides outpatient care and isn’t equipped for emergencies.
Types of depression we treat
- Major depressive disorder (MDD) — Persistent low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, and changes in sleep or appetite lasting 2+ weeks
- Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) — Depression that follows a seasonal pattern, especially relevant in North Dakota’s long winters
- Postpartum depression — A significant depressive episode following childbirth, distinct from the “baby blues”
- Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) — Lower-grade, chronic depression lasting 2+ years
Signs of depression to watch for
- Persistent sad, empty, or hopeless mood
- Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
- Changes in sleep, appetite, or weight
- Fatigue and low energy even after rest
- Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering
- Withdrawing from friends and family
A note on North Dakota winters
Seasonal depression affects a significant portion of the population in northern states. If your mood consistently drops in fall and lifts in spring, effective treatment is available. You don’t have to white-knuckle through another winter.
